Going to Mackinac City and Mackinac Island is like stepping into another lifetime. It is very rich in history and culture, not in a boring but in an interesting kinda way.
On our first day on the city, we went to see Downtown Mackinac. We went to Fort Michilimackinac, had lunch in a waterfront with a great view of the Mackinac Bridge, did a litlle strolling on Mackinaw Crossings shopping mall and photographed historic landmarks including the Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse. We then retreated on our waterfront hotel and had a chit-chat with friends while enjoying the sunset and the site of flying seagulls. A couple of hours later, we’re on our way to the Beer & Wine Festival and Laser Light Show….Our first day in Mackinac was a blast….
The next day, we we’re up early, excited to see the island. Hubby and I took a short walk by the beach while waiting for the sunrise….After breakfast, off we go to the ferry dock.
Mackinac Island, an island covering 3.8 square miles is 18 minute- boat ride away from the city. It is located in Lake Huron, between the state's Upper and Lower Peninsulas. The island was home to a Native American settlement before European exploration began in the 17th century. Bicycles and Horse-drawn carriages were the only means of transportation in this place.
There we visited Fort Mackinac, saw a wide variety homes with of impressive architectural styles, admired the famous Victorian Grand Hotel, where the classic movie “ Somewhere In Time” was filmed, took a good view of the governor’s summer residence and had a long, long walk at Mackinac Island State Park.
It was indeed a weekend to remember…
I had a fabulous time with my man and also enjoyed the company of great friends….
